So I gave my reasoning, in a previous post, for why I believe the US stock market will continue to do extremely well going forward: Previous Post: Dow 50,000 Within 10 Years But I like to hedge my bets by being globally diversified. It’s also one of the reasons why I did so well this year with my stock portfolio: Previous Post: How I did it: 35% One-Year Return And it’s also why I’m ...

We hear it in the news quite often these days: “The stock market is at “all time highs!! Move to cash!!” But have you ever thought about exactly how often the market’s at “all time highs?” Maybe it’s not that uncommon. Since 1950 to now, roughly 1 out of every 15 days the market was open, it has closed at a new high level (roughly 6.7% of all trading days). The S&P 500 has spent ...

Ok, so this is embarrassing to admit. And even more embarrassing to display to the world. But there’s no point in running away from the truth. I need to face reality. Here’s what happened. I gained a whopping 47lbs in the last 6 months!!! Not sure how that’s even possible, but it happened. Very embarrassing, especially for a personal trainer. Here are my stats, as of tonight: Weight: 220.4 lbs Body Fat: 29% Waist: 40.8″ Chest: 43.8″ Shoulders: 50″ Quads: 24.7″ Arms: ...

When you contribute to your 401K, your IRA, or just buying individual stocks through your brokerage, have you ever wondered where the money went? Most people incorrectly assume that the money goes to the company. So for example, if you buy $1000 of apple stock, the $1000 goes to Apple. Well, this isn’t typically the case. A good analogy I’ve heard is that buying shares in an IPO (initial public offering – ...

I think it’s healthy to ponder about stuff like this from time to time, because it puts things into perspective. We recently landed a probe on a comet. Here’s its’ size compared to Los Angeles: This is earth. Our home. Earth is super small. We can fit 6 earths inside just the width of Saturn’s rings. This is the sun compared to the earth, and the other planets: This is our solar system: Here’s our entire ...

Everyone seems to be talking about Bitcoin these days. I recently read an article about an 18-year old high school dropout who became a Bitcoin millionaire. So it’s no surprise that people are taking notice! What is Bitcoin? Bitcoin is a digital currency (cryptocurrency) that does not require a central authority (i.e. governments, banks, or digital payment systems like PayPal). Instead Bitcoin uses a decentralized peer-to-peer network to record transactions. Because anything digital has ...

So over the weekend I went by the Tesla dealership on a whim. On a whim! If you know me, you’d know that this is very unlike me. – First of all, I’m fairly frugal. I used to be SUPER frugal, but I’ve moderated over the years. – Secondly, I’m not a big car guy. I was never interested in them, and really the only thing I consider is safety. And that’s about ...

How can this be? I thought I was fit, and BOOM one day, I wake up to find myself 40lbs overweight. What happened? How did I get to this point of failure (for the record I went from 175lbs to ~214lbs). How does anyone get to any catastrophic point of failure? Whether it’s being overweight, or broke, failing in classes, failing at work or at home, or in relationships. We can’t possibly just wake ...
