Today, I initiated a position in Hanesbrands, Inc. (HBI).  Many of you are probably familiar with HBI, which designs, manufactures, sources and sells apparel essentials such as t-shirts, innerwear, casualwear, activewear, socks and hosiery.  It markets its products under the brand names of Hanes, Champion, and Maidenform, among many others. I contemplated purchasing HBI at […] ...

Time for a Performance Check For some background on the idea behind the Performance Check, and the XIRR function used for the calculations, please see my first post in this series – Performance Check – PG I’m continuing my performance check series with a look at the third dividend paying stock I ever purchased for […] ...

Nothing scary about my dividend total for October.  Not a big YoY increase, just continued growth.  However, I got quite the treat in receiving a large number of dividend increases.  Let’s get into the details!   Dividend Income The total was $452.91… an acceptable 9.28% increase compared to the same month last year. A baker’s dozen of companies paid me a dividend this month.  The largest amount came from RPM, a long-time holding.  The ...

Time for another monthly examination of the dividend Portfolio.  Periodic reviews are necessary in order to determine if I can improve it. There was a little activity in the portfolio this past month… an additional purchase of NKE, and a complete sale of GWW.  Check out the links to get the reasoning behind those transactions. A couple of my financial stocks have been doing very well this past month: TROW and BLK.  ...

Earlier this week, I closed my position in W.W. Grainger (GWW). I had purchased GWW not too long ago, in May of this year.  At that time, GWW had fallen close to 30% since the beginning of the year, and I thought there was value there.  So, despite owning Fastenal (FAST) already, which is in the same sector and similar industry, and despite not knowing if I would ultimately hold GWW ...

Early this week I added to my position in Nike (NKE).  NKE has been range bound over the past year, trading between $50 and $60.  With it now trading near the low end of that range, I decided to pick up some additional shares, and lower my cost basis per share.  This is my 2nd add-on to the original position I initiated back in April 2016.  NKE does not sport ...

Time for a Performance Check For some background on the idea behind the Performance Check, and the XIRR function used for the calculations, please see my first post in this series – Performance Check – PG I’m continuing my performance check series with a look at the second dividend paying stock I ever purchased for my Portfolio.  The stock is RPM International (RPM), which is part of the Materials sector. From the company’s ...

Since the NFL season began this month, it only seems appropriate to declare my portfolio’s September dividend total as a Touchdown!  In addition, the portfolio went for the 2-pt conversion and made it, as it didn’t just score 7 hundred, but rather 8 hundred for me.  Check it out…   Dividend Income The total was $804.08… a noteworthy 30.89% increase compared to the same month last year.  This is only the 2nd time ...

Time again for my monthly examination of the dividend Portfolio, and deciding what actions I might take to improve it, if any. This past month has been rather quiet in terms of portfolio activity… just one purchase (HRL), about 1 month ago, and no sales (which should be infrequent anyway). I haven’t made any decision with regard to FAST or GWW, and possibly consolidating on just one.  To be honest, time has ...

What is the Performance Check? From time to time I’ll do a personal performance check on the dividend paying stocks in my Portfolio. I’ll review individual stock performance, and it will cover the stock’s performance since I first purchased it.  Note – at the end of each calendar year I’ll review the performance of the entire portfolio as a whole. The review will allow me to evaluate whether or not I’m getting an ...
