Many times over the past almost six years that I’ve been a stay at home mom, I’ve been riddled with guilt over our decision. Thoughts float around in my head: “Should I go back to work?”, “Will we be able to save enough for retirement without me financially contributing at this moment?”, “I really wish we could afford more flexibility in our budget so we could (go on vacation, join the ...

Everything here has been a whirlwind lately since Mr. Money lost his job a couple months ago.  We’ve been trying to keep our heads above water, and I feel like we’ve been doing a pretty good job doing that so far.  One of the hardest things for me is when I have a million transactions to reconcile in our check register.  Yes, I still use one of those 😉 I’ve ...

88 Days ago, Mr. Money accepted a new position after he was contacted by a company numerous times offering him an Executive Chef position. He had turned down the company twice before he decided that he was going to seriously consider working for them. He had an interview where they talked with him, he performed a cooking challenge (similar to Chopped!) and they told them they would be in contact ...

I have been a fan of simple living/minimalism for many years.  I have worked hard to declutter our home and keep it as clutter free as possible even after adding to our family.  Over the past few years, I’ve tried many different methods in decluttering and simplifying our house.  One of my favorite methods is the Kon Mari method from the book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.  The ...

The other day, our dryer quit working how it’s supposed to.  We have an LG dryer that we bought to go with our washing machine when we bought our house ten years ago.  It has a special sensor that can tell when the clothes are dry, and I love it! There is no guessing and no over drying clothes, which leads to tons of static.  I had put a load ...

Dave Ramsey is quite the financial guru, and one of his biggest beliefs is his “baby steps” program- the steps he believes will lead you to financial freedom.  I like Dave Ramsey, and I believe he’s got some great ideas to help people become debt free and lead a financially stable life.  Here are the 7 baby steps: Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps Baby Step 1: Save $1,000 in an emergency ...

Years ago, I hopped on the homemade laundry detergent train.  I thought it was cheaper, more natural, and worked just as well as commercial laundry detergent.  I used it in my high efficiency front loading washing machine for years until we had Penny and then I decided to try a different laundry detergent on our cloth diapers.  I figured they were the dirtiest laundry I would probably ever wash so ...

During the winter, my family takes elderberry syrup along with other supplements to boost our immune systems. Elderberries have been known to shorten the duration of illness, and it’s a berry so it’s generally considered safe for pretty much anyone including pregnant and nursing women. I personally have taken it while pregnant and nursing.  I really enjoy making and taking the elderberry syrup. If you don’t want to make your own ...

Setting goals is extremely helpful for me.  I have anxiety if I don’t have a plan set in stone, and by writing down exactly what I’d like for us to accomplish makes me feel better.  Last year I didn’t set goals, but I did in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015. -Pay $8,000 down on the principal of our home.  We’re still in the same house we bought almost 10 ...
