Alright, I must admit that we are a little late to the FinCon wrap-up post party.  My apologies! But like the saying goes, better late than never. FinCon was amazing! Mr. Wow and I had the best time.  It was amazing to meet so many more people in this community and get to hear their stories firsthand.  Now we have… ...

Hate to break it to you, but this isn’t going to be one of those light-hearted posts about life, love, waffles or beer or anything else fun we’ve become known for.  (The Mrs has been slammed with work and should be back next week for that stuff).  But, it’s something that was brought up a couple of times at FinCon… ...

Let’s start off with a little thought experiment: It’s Monday morning and you walk into the office. You go to your desk and turn on your computer. Then you get up for a cup of coffee and you start BSing with your co-worker about the stuff you did over the weekend. When you walk back to your desk, there’s that damn screen saver. You know the one. It’s flashing pictures of ...

This week marks our one year blogiversary, I seriously can’t believe it.  In case you are curious, here’s our first post: Sharing is Caring.  It’s nowhere near my best work, but it’s what officially put us in the blogosphere. 12 months and almost 50 posts later, we’ve come a long way. And now I have the Rent song stuck in my head… We’ve had some great memories, including helping my mom save money,  celebrating National ...

The Chautauqua in Ibarra, Ecuador was quite an amazing trip. We got to meet so many amazing people. Throughout the week, we found ourselves mentioning to each other, “These are our people, This is our tribe.” It’s quite amazing to find such a diverse group of people that have so much in common. Ages varied drastically, career paths varied (although there were disproportionately more software people there). There were people that had ...

Sorry, we’re currently out of the office.  In case you didn’t know, we’re in Ecuador at the Chautauqua, hanging out with Mr. Money Mustache, Mad Fientist, Paula Pant, a Fiery Millennial, a Coach, and the Godfather himself, Jim Collins. And while all those guys are great, we’re also meeting other fantastic people and having phenomenal conversations about finances, life, and happiness.  We even met the folks behind a documentary being made ...

FIRE is a long journey, it’s a marathon if you will.  And it takes a long time to finally reach FIRE, and once you’re there, I can only imagine the freedom and relief you get when Sunday evening rolls around.  You get ready for bed.  Then you get up Monday morning… and you continue on with your weekend.  What a great feeling?  I can’t wait to get there. But, not quite ...

Two years ago, I took a chance. For the first time, I solo travelled to another country and continent.   Although I considered myself an experienced traveler, I had always traveled with someone. This time I was on my own. The destination: Ecuador.  The plan: Volunteer. To be honest, I was nervous.  I had gotten used to traveling with the Mr., as we each had our designated jobs.  I com up with crazy ...

To the typical rebuttal to the frugal way of life, and working toward our FI plans: But, what if you get hit by a bus? Well… I did, only it was a car.  This is Part 4.  You can catch up on Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3. Recap It’s been almost a year since I was run over by a car and I am still dealing with the process.  It’s been unbelievably frustrating to say ...

Footprints Today, I want to talk about footprints.  Mine are about a size 6 1/2.  Most people tell me that I have small feet.  But of the women in my family I have the largest footprint.  My mother is a size 6 and my sister, a 5 1/2. Ok, but really, I am not here to talk about the actual imprints left behind while we walk.  What I really want to talk ...
