I have not written anything since April this year.  My life has changed a lot, and my priority has been shifted dramatically. As a result, unfortunately I plan to shut down this blog in a couple of weeks.  Here I would like to thank every reader for your support during the last two years.  Some readers and my blogger friends even left the nice comments, thank you all.  It meant a ...

Traffic jam happens everywhere. The traffic in central Ohio is not too bad.  Now I’m back to work part-time, and traffic is something I start paying attention to again.  Luckily I don’t work every day, and my commute is all local roads, no freeways.  This means less stress to me. So far I have only traveled to a few countries.  I’m not a huge fan of travel, more a homebody.  Today I’d ...

Last week marked my 6th year anniversary of leaving the engineering career.  In the spring of 2013, finally I said to myself: “25 years in the IT is long enough to call it a career.  Let me get out of it.” Here I am.  Six years later, I’m happier and healthier.  Today I’d like to do some reflections about the engineering career.  It may not be that objective, as it’s just ...

Finally my favorite season spring is here.  Flowers started blooming.  The daffodils in my yard are smiling, and the tulips are catching up.  Today I’m going to talk about flowers. I love fresh flowers.  What about you? Many ladies like it, too.  Once a while, I heard some comments from my female friends: “I don’t remember when it was the last time my husband bought flowers for me.”  It sounded that happened ...

Hi everyone, I’m back. My life has changed quite a lot lately.  To make the long story short: about a month ago, I started working again.  Not full time.  It’s a part time job. I know it doesn’t sound like me.  I mentioned in this blog over and over again that, I enjoyed my early retirement life.  No regrets about leaving the engineering career 6 years ago, and I was happy about ...

Nowadays it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t own a cell phone.  Most of the cell phones are smart phones.  Love it or hate it, we become inseparable with it. Cell phone is part of our identities: what kind of phones we use, what APPs are running, the customized wallpaper and notification tones, you name it. Did the smart phone make us smarter?  Is our life becoming more meaningful, productive and ...

Have you seen the 1968 movie “Yours, Mine and Ours” starring Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball?  I love it.  It’s so hilarious. The 2005 movie “Yours, Mine & Ours” is a remake.  It was played by Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo.  It’s good, too, with kind of modern flavor. It talked about a blended family.  The guy had 10 children, and the gal had 8 children.  They fell in love, got married, ...

For 2019, as an exception, I didn’t make the New Year resolutions.  During the last couple of years, I failed half of the goals miserably.  So, I decided to try something different.  At the end of 2018, I joined a virtual health club. What is this virtual health club? Oh, this is an online chat group (not a cult group).  Currently there are about 20 members.  All of them are my college ...

Have you ever asked yourself: “Why am I working?”  On every work day, you are woken up by the alarm clock, and start a new day in the same way: wash, eat, dress up, and rush to work, no exceptions. Working for 8 to 10 long hours each day is pretty much normal right now, with tons of meetings, deadlines, phone calls, and emails and text interruptions.  It’s like hundreds of ...

I’m always curious what the retirees do in different countries.  Obviously it’s related to the culture. When I stayed in China for over 3 months, the Google was not available there.  For any China-related search, I used Baidu, the Chinese search engine. One day, I asked Baidu: “What do the retirees in China do?”  The results were very surprising.  The top result showed about the previous Chinese presidents and prime ministers, what ...
