The second quarter of the year held some expensive surprises for me. My 2005 Toyota Camry needed some pricey repairs that would cost about the same as the car, so I decided to buy a new car instead. I bought a 2017 used Toyota Camry, nicknamed ‘Creme Brulee’ because of its colour. It’s a one year old dealership lease buyback and only has 9000 km. I paid $20000 all in, ...

I came across J.D.Roth’s post The thin green line: Why you should be skeptical of financial blogs the other day, and it got me thinking. I’m sure most people who tumble over this post would have heard of J.D.Roth, he’s the man behind Get Rich Slowly, which was one of my favourite PF blogs before he sold it back in the day. To say that I’m thrilled that he bought the ...

I’ve been away from this blog for a while. I’ve been feeling like for every topic I think about writing, someone else has done it better, with better research and more eloquence than I can muster. This is ultimately a happy problem, I just need to find enough time to read everything. So for now I am going to stick to more factual posts for a bit. 2018 Q1 Financial ...

Dear Evan Hansen is THE musical on Broadway for the 2016-2017 season, and deservedly so. It won six 2017 Tony awards, including Best Musical. I loved this show so much, if I could’ve score tickets to see it the next night, I would have gone again. It is that good. I have come back to this post many times in the past weeks and rewritten it. This is supposed to be the part where I tell you why I started this blog now. Why start a blog and why now.  The thing is, most ideas I come up with has been written before in the PF community. Often more than once, and by writers who wrote it much much better than ...

I enjoy reading Refinery 29's Money Diary Series and Sherry's A Week of Money posts at Save.Spend.Splurge, so I thought I could try doing the same for one week. If nothing else, It'll will be fun to look back at on a later date to see if I've make my days closer to My Ideal Day. What first attracted me to FIRE was my sense of escapism. Escaping the 9-to-5, never having to work another day in my life etc etc. So imagine the surprise when I came across some lifestyle design exercises on the ideal day: My Ideal Day is surprisingly close to my current regular work day.  The post My Ideal Day Surprise appeared first on Traveling Cents. ...

I don’t do well with New Year’s Resolutions. For the most part, I lose motivation about 3-6 months into the new year. The defeat over the failures almost always overshadow the sense of accomplishment over the few goals I do reach. Thanks to Claire over at Want Less who wrote about doing a series of 30-day challenges for each month of the year instead of New Year’s Resolutions, I’m going ...
