I’ve decided this is my last post on this blog. I started this blog many years ago with a few goals in mind: creating a space to process and refine my thoughts through writing, connecting to a community of people interested in personal finance, and practicing my writing skills. While I believe I’ve accomplished my goals to varying degrees, I have always found it a struggle to write here consistently.… Read ...

Back in April I left my full time job, and for the past 8 months I’ve been trying self employment. My main goal with this transition was to start living a part-time lifestyle that I am more comfortable with, to get away from the restrictions of office life, while still covering my expenses and *maybe* earning enough to still save some cash in investments every year. My thinking is, if… Read ...

I have been a member of the Mr. Money Mustache forums for a number of years now – sometimes I am more active than others, but next to Twitter it has always been my favorite place to discuss personal finance and financial independence on the web. I have also attended a number of Camp Mustache retreats in Seattle, as well as attended and helped organize meetups of FI-minded local folks.… Read ...

I quit my job back at the end of April. For the first few months of unemployment I focused a lot of my energy toward downsizing our belongings, finding tenants for our house, and preparing for and buying our new RV home. Most of my time in July was spent going with the flow, moving around frequently, and seeing the sights. I didn’t give myself a lot of time to… Read ...

If you've read my last few posts about moving into an RV, you might be wondering how life is going for us now that it's real. I am happy to say we launched successfully on July 1st as planned. After a mad dash of final purging, storing, cleaning, problem solving, and preparing, we are officially full-time RVers... When I tell people about our plans to spend the next year+ living in a fancy 38 foot 5th wheel trailer, I can see in people’s eyes the question that most aren’t bold enough to ask – how much did that cost, and how can you possibly afford it if you just quit your job!? If I’m being honest with myself, all of this life upheaval at once probably hasn’t… Read ...

When I started this blog I wanted to be cool and include my net worth on the site. After all, personal finance bloggers share their personal finances, right? But after putting my financial numbers out there for a few months, I realized it wasn’t all that entertaining or enlightening. I also realized I wasn’t super comfortable sharing my income and net worth publicly, even if done through an anonymous blog.… Read ...

If you’re following along in my recent series of posts about taking a gap year to experiment with self employment (post 1, post 2), the latest news is that plans are becoming ever more real (and ever more anxiety inducing). I put in my notice at work (an angst-filled task that I was happy to get over with). It’s now official, and I will be done at the end of… Read ...
